Privacy, Generally

A consumer has a reasonable and legitimate expectation of privacy in his computer hard drive. The court found that a consumer has every reason to expect that a repair technician working on the hard drive will not be rifling through the individual files [unless the consumer asked for assistance on a specific computer file] stored on the hard drive. U.S. v. Barth, 26 F.Supp. 929, 936-37 [U.S.D.C. W.D. Tex. 1998].
